Life is pretty, clumsy, messy, scandled, overjudged, vengeful, love in hate and moreover ruthless. The far one tries to run away, the deep it pull you in like the murderous quicksand. The fact cannot be denied. To live this life, they unweed the innocent creepers that tries to crawl around their way. All this book has thought me is the people you see as your closest human of your life will break you from your foundation.

The story sets in America with the beginning of Leslie Stewart, in her late twenties who is working as a public relations and advertising executive at the town of Lexington, Kentucky. She falls in love with Oliver Russell, a 35 years old local attorney who is running candidate for governor election. He ditched Leslie just a week before their wedding by marrying his ex-fiancè, Jan Davis, the daughter of the influential person in Kentucky, Sentor Todd Davis.

Even though Leslie reflects her gentleness and easygoing with the news her called off marriage with Oliver before the public, she patiently ignites her own agony to ablaze her vengeance by building a regal empire in her career. Eventually Oliver, on other side, married Jan Davis and succeeded in building his political career as a President of US with the backbone support from his father-in-law, Senator Todd Davis who had once disowned Oliver. There unfolds the series of events simultaneously.

The novel is packed with the numerous characters and gives equal spotlight for each main character before its readers. Characters such as Senator Todd Davis, Peter Tager, Dana Evans and few other characters are specific ones. The backstory of each character introduced has been condensed. Despite the novel is overpopulated, the characterization has been impeccably done.

The writing style of the novel is detailed on the specification of the characters. The multiple point of view has been well organized without any mess. The setting of the novel takes place in Kentucky and the readers get the chance to experience the glimpse of Washington DC as well as the war zone of tattered Sarajevo.

The flow of the language is lucid but rhetorical. The story has been highly packed with thriller, crime and political games. The linkers of the events have been systematically paralleled. Though the novel gave a new experience, I think that it is not the right one to begin with the works of Sidney Sheldon. I am quite disappointed with my choice for my first time experience. After finished reading, the novel made me to feel the atmosphere of Hollywood’s justification. Like in movies, the hero has been forgiven and the heroine has been forsaken. I am not taking any sides still I felt that no characters of the novel has got the justification for their guilt or suffering.

If anyone loves to pick the political crime novels, you can go for this one. Because Love is a poisonous ECSTASY….

Happy reading!!
