This is the first-ever novel that changes over the genre from one to another. The novel begins with the life of Nisha who works as an IT employee, in Chennai who gets an anonymous call. She finds that the call is from Dhruv Prakash in Social Media Managing team with whom she texts for the past few days. And she saves the number as ‘Secret Crush’. From there the novel takes its heartstopping-twisting events that await the protagonist. The story is divided into two parts with unique chapters.
The novel sets in Chennai as well as Trichy with the parallel narrative of the story which goes back and forth between 2016 and 2009 latter meet at a point. Unlike some bubbly characterization of the female protagonist in some novels, Nisha is characterized as a girl of her own choice. She stands on her righteous choice without others opinions to make her a strong character.
The character development is cluster free and fairly used. The novel gets its peak of nail-biting scenes after the arrival of private detective, Kevin. However, the ending is not much satisfied with my anticipation. But kept me at the edge of the seat throughout the novel with some annoyance whenever the protagonist was beautified more. The real story begins from part 2 whereas part 1 plays as the fuming furnace of the events. Till the climax, you cannot guess the person behind the nasty events.
The language of the novel is also lucid and easily flow with the plot. The novel rekindles some of the old memories in 2017 (Tamilians can relate about what I mean, Marina). The cover design itself provokes the sense of mystery that is endorsed in the novel. In this view, the way ‘IN’ is placed inside the letter O of the word Loving gives the warning for falling as prey to the enthralling events of the character’s life.
I recommend this novel for thriller and crime novel lovers until you have read Agatha’s novel.
Warning: SPOILER ALERT for Agatha Christie’s A Murder of Roger Ackroyd in a chapter.
Happy Reading!
