Rebirth is the narrative of Kaberi, a solitary brave woman who faced and tackled the hard situations with grace during her pregnancy. The novel entirely sets in Bangalore but the author has never failed to illustrate the astounding grandeur of Assam in this novel.
Kaberi was a composed, self-aware woman who pushed diligently to keep herself strong and peaceful throughout her entire trimesters. She learns about her husband, Ranjit Bora’s (Ron), involvement with another woman at his workplace. However, she did not disclose her failing marriage life to her family. Instead, she stationed on her baby’s health and started drafting her book.
Ranjit was never been a good part throughout Kaberi’s pregnancy. She took herself a good care to bring her child into the world. The story unfolds throughout her pregnancy and focuses on the loss, regret, dejection and solitude of a pregnant woman. She endured grave despair when a woman needs a great deal of care and love from her loved ones.
The naturistic beauty of Northeast India has been artistically captured through the description of the writer while narrating the childhood days of Kaberi in her village. The scenes are orderly combined by the mother, Kaberi and attempts to give the essence of her ethincity and culture to her unborn child.
The author also captures the soulful relationship between Kaberi and the other people in her life like parents, friends and in-laws. Unlike her unloving husband Ron, they loved Kaberi and are fond of her. Her friend, Preetha has been a moral support throughout the tough times of Kaberi. She always hurries to Kaberi whenever she is in need of her assistance.
This novel is a light read with lucid and simple language. The writing style makes the readers to follow the in-line of the plot. The characters present their fair appearance throughout the course of the narration without inflicting any diversions.
I would like to suggest the novel for everyone as it is beginner-friendly to read.
