Letter to My Fellow Readers: To Resurrect Reading

Blogpost by Dhanu

The other day, I was deeply engrossed in contemplation about the aspects of my life that hold value for my existence. To name those invaluable beings, I can say obviously books, dreams, life, relationships, friendships, family, and most importantly, this place—my blog/bookstagram. This space has entirely transformed me and become a unique part of my life. It gives room for my thoughts, love for books, photographs, creativity, and the amazing souls I have come to know here.

The last 3+ years have witnessed numerous ups and downs. Some days, I lack the strength to write or create content. But this place is always there for me until I return one day with my overwhelming emotions that need to be poured down here in the form of words. Just like I am doing now!

I remember the days when I was doing bookish fun challenges with my book besties. And their genuine admiration just encouraged me more and made me adore this space more than reality. And the sad part of these days is that we no longer have authentic reading. It all became for the sake of the numbers that quantify our readings at the end of the year. Those days are the real gems!

Lately, this place too got overrun with overlaps of other things. Everything has become alienated and has become a platform for gaining more visibility and increasing engagement. The people I used to admire are either long gone or have veered off course. I have started to feel that this place is no longer a haven for book lovers to receive intense reading recommendations and reviews and to connect with soulful readers with similar tastes in reading.

Even I got sidetracked behind reels and began focusing on simplifying thoughts about books for easy readability. This shift made me lose interest in being here. And it resulted in inconsistency in my reading and the creation of meaningful, deep reviews or recommendations that truly reflect how I feel about a book.

To restore my love for reading and offer quality recommendations, I would like to restore this space to its former glory. I no longer want to be in the race for visibility and follower count that this site seems to encourage among the creators. I have also narrowed down the content that I want to see here often. If I use any technology, it should be there for my convenience, not the other way around.

Let’s bring back those golden days of reading by delving into profound engagement with literature, rather than reading for the count to focus on your reading challenges. Dive deeper and enhance the quest for real euphoria in reading. This would sift through the remnants of reading unauthentic content. It is not like all our choices are so. We need more patience to do research to uncover a book that electrifies your lost reading soul.

So, I want to convey one thing to my genuine readers. If my blog has the content you people are looking for, a simple “hi” or a word from you in the comment box would mean a lot. Your engagement motivates me to continue with the enthusiasm I once had.

I hope to see such readers stay with me on this journey to resurrect a meaningful reading experience.
