Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë- Book review

Blogpost by Dhanu

I’ve cried to myself to watch them growing more reckless daily, and I not daring to speak a syllable, for fear of losing the small power I still retained over the unfriended creatures. p.43

A Long review (sorry!)

The novel sets in West Yorkshire Moor during the late 1800s. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are the two primary locations, the isolated locations in the midst of moors, where the entire story takes place in the life of both the family of Earnshaw and Linton respectively. Life goes smooth and pleasant like a calm evening. Like the darkness after the sunset, the dark clouds prevail on the life of the Earnshaws as well as Lintons after the arrival of Heathcliff.

But! does he have anything to do about it? Why everyone hates him? And the novel takes you within to talk a walk along the side of moors. The story of these families gets unfolded after the arrival of Mr Lockwood in 1801. The story unveils the story within.

After all, Life will be all about the choices we made. The choice made by Catherine turns the life of everyone upside down including Heathcliff which she may reason for his sake (don’t believe her, I totally hate her). The choice made by Edgar Linton gave the way for unexpected things. Finally, the choice made by Isabella entirely devastated the life of others as well. But I cannot totally blame Isabella where her brother had forgotten her and created the vacant in the life of that then spinster.

The story is gloomy until Catherine Linton was born. The only character, I admire most, is Nelly who tries to keep everything and everyone in their order. Without her, the story may have grown more gruesome.

The character development of the novel happens under the spell of Brontë without any other exaggeration about any characters appearances. The language, there is no doubt you have to go through the classic way of reading which may give you tough. My sincere advice, please do not do DNF with this novel, you will miss the amazing journey there. And the cover design depicts the gloominess of the novel which was the edition of 2018. The moors and the girl on the black horse!

The novel is entirely difficult to finish with loads of unexpected turmoils that we have to come across. But once you have started there will be no escapades. Moreover, this novel spreads its gloominess on me as well. This novel is published under the pseudonym of Ellis Bell and has filled with darkness, heartbreaks, dejections, miseries, abuses, revenges and existential crisis.

And as the consequence, I had tortured my buddy readers @_itsmesabeer and @the_bookomaniac with loads of arguments and fights. Lol, I feel like Heathcliff every now and then. Heathcliff is my love forever and @_itsmesabeer you have to change your opinion about him. Here our fight continues forever.

Highly recommended this classic novel to read.

Happy Reading!
